How about all those other Caniglia restaurants?

A little history -

Grace and Tony Piccolo

The Caniglia Brothers - l to r: Ross, Mister C, Al, Lou, and Eli

Anthony & Grace (Caniglia) Piccolo

Mister C’s only sister Grace and her husband Anthony Piccolo operated Piccolo Pete’s Restaurant on south 20th street. A very famous restaurant in itself, with a long rich history and is still very successful today. Grace’s husband Anthony passed away in 2000. Daughters Nadine & Donna, with their families, currently operate the restaurant.

Eli and Joanne Caniglia

After leaving the Pizzaria, Eli and his wife went to 69th and Pacific and started the Venice Inn. Eli and Joanne have both since passed away. The Venice Inn has remained one of Omaha’s favorites to this day and is currently operated by their sons Chuck & Jerry.

Al & Mary Ann Caniglia

Al also had his own personal stake in the family restaurant lineage. His solo venture was the Drawing Room in Millard. He also opened a beautiful restaurant on the top floor of the Woodman Tower Building downtown called The Top of The World.

Lou & Pearl Caniglia

Lou and his wife Pearl re-opened the Tomahawk Inn located on 88th and Maple, naming it Lou Caniglia’s Steak House & Little Luigi’s Tower of Pizza. Later Lou would have other restaurant projects, Little Luigi’s on 114th and West Dodge and Lucianos in the Stockyard Plaza in South Omaha. Lou & Pearl have both since passed away. Ross & Helen Caniglia

Aside from the Pizzaria, Ross, Lou and Al had a joint venture, the Palazzo Italiano on 84th and West Center. It was an enormous, elegant restaurant, beautifully appointed with imported art and materials from Italy. Headline entertainment appeared in the dining room nightly. When the Palazzo closed, Ross concentrated his interests exclusively to the Pizzaria.

Ross passed away in 1998 & his wife in 2000. The Pizzaria has been operated by sons Chuck, Ron and Bob. The Original Caniglia’s Pizzaria on 7th & Pierce Street closed August 8th 2006 after 59 very successful years.

The building has been demolished making way for new town homes as part of downtown Omaha's revitalization.
